Smash Hits

Smash Hits

“I was lucky enough to work for Smash Hits in a golden age for British pop, between the end of punk and Live Aid. This was the period when young, intelligent pop stars had learnt the lessons and ideas of Punk and decided to link them to the glamour of pop stardom and nightlife. A stylish, thoughtful hedonistic pop era flourished and Smash Hits was its house magazine.”

Neil has written the introduction to “The Best of Smash Hits”, a new book reprinting classic interviews and features from the legendary and now deceased pop magazine which Neil worked for between 1982 and 1985 before leaving to be a full time Pet Shop Boy. The book is available now.
